Spring Track Team Rules

- Practices:
- Practices will be held from 2:45 - 4:45 (and until 3:45 for throwers), Monday through Friday.
- Practice will be held Saturdays from 9-11.
- Attendance:
- Athletes are expected to be at every practice and every meet on time. Absences and tardiness hurt the performance of the athlete and the team.
- Athletes may be excused from a practice or arrive late to practice if:
- they notify a coach prior to being absent or late and receive permission to miss a practice or meet.
- they bring a note from their parent or doctor after an appointment or a note from a teacher after extra help or detention.
- Punishment:
- 1st unexcused absence or tardy - athlete will be suspended from the next meet.
- 2nd unexcused absence or tardy - athlete will be removed from the team.
- Athletes who have conflicts between the track schedule and their work schedule or other extra curricular activities should speak to the coaches prior to missing any practices. We will try to accommodate these athletes as much as possible.
- Show up to practice prepared to workout. Showing up to practice unprepared will be considered an unexcused absence.
- We will have team meetings before practice at least once a week. Attendance at team meetings is mandatory.
- Attendance at meets is mandatory with very few exceptions. All athletes have received a meet schedule. Plan accordingly.
- All athletes must ride the team bus to any meet in which they are competing.
- No athlete may leave a meet early unless it is an emergency and they have received permission from a coach.

- Removal from Practice:
- Any athlete removed from practice will be suspended from the subsequent meet and may be suspended from multiple meets or removed from the team.
- School Discipline Issues:
- School discipline issues will be addressed within the track team as well as in school. Issues will be addressed in the following manner:
- Minor Offence: Teacher Detention and Office Detention Due to Tardiness - Extra Running.
- Intermediate Offence: Multiple Office Detentions or Removal from Class - Meet Suspension
- Major Offence: Suspension or Drug or Alcohol Related Offence - Multiple Meet Suspension or Removal from Team
- Injuries:
- Injured athletes must be at practice on time, unless they have made other arrangements with a coach.
- Come to practice in appropriate clothing and see a coach for an alternative workout or be prepared help out during practice.
- Injured athletes will be required to receive clearance from a doctor or the trainer before resuming workouts.
- Uniforms:
- Athletes are expected to wear the school-approved uniform at all meets. Failure to do so may result in suspension from that meet.
- School approved uniform:
- school issued Oliver Ames track jersey.
- plain black shorts purchased through the track boosters club.
- sneakers appropriate for the event(s) the athlete will be completing in.
- Team uniforms will be collected at the last regular season meet of the year per MIAA regulations. Athletes must pay for any lost uniforms. Cost of a uniform is $45.
- Pre-Season Requirements:
- All athletes must complete the following paperwork and turn it in to either Coach Sunderland or Coach Darling. All paperwork must be completed before receiving a uniform. No athlete will be allowed to compete in a meet unless all paperwork is up to date.
- Required Paperwork:
- Activity Fee - (Do not give this to anyone other than a coach!)
- $125 for all sports (family limit is $375)
- Signed Code of Conduct (You do not need this if you have already played a sport this year.)
- Completed Medical Clearance Card (You do not need this if you have already played a sport this year.)
- Physicals - All athletes must have an up-to-date physical in order to compete in meets or practice with the team. Your physical is up to date if you had it within 13 months of the first day of practice
- Lost or Stolen Items:
- Coaches are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Buy a lock and lock valuables up!
- Letter:
- Varsity Letters will be awarded to athletes on the following basis:
- 10 points scored during meets and completion of the season or
- any senior who completes the season.
